MS Cluster/Server 2003 designer to support  a series of global solutions (20,000 users) for the bank. Provided both high level (infrastructure) and low level (server builds) designs for the corporate infrastructure. Key responsibilities included:-

·          Business objects/Citrix solution in an Active(Prod)-Active(DR) configuration

·          Clustering of a Tier 1 non-cluster aware application

·          Designed and implemented a number of VMWare (GSX/ESX) based solutions

Leading UK Bank, Technical Lead/Architect

Assignment to design and implement a solution to provide full operational access to bank systems in the UK from outsource partners in India. Adherence to security policy and guidelines to deliver a fast, reliable, scalable and secure (thin client) solution using Citrix Metaframe XP and Windows Server 2000. Key responsibilities:-


·          Overall technical design which included the Active Directory

·          Citrix server build considerations

·          Network scaling and redundancy

·          Clustered build for the Data Store

·          Citrix Secure Gateway/NFuse/STA arrangement to guarantee the authenticity of ICA traffic

Strategic UK Transport Initiative, Technical Integration Specialist

Assignment to integrate bespoke and commercial software into a Greenfield W2K and Active Directory network. Key area was the Image and Enforcement system which focussed on the ability to read number plates from passing vehicles and dispatch/maintain fines. Ensured the integration of software from various third party suppliers to make a reliable and secure system. Specific technologies and skills included AD/GPO/server design, packaging and distribution, security uplifts and build automation. Additionally became responsible for the definition of the backup and anti-virus strategies.


Leading UK Retailer, Technical Lead/Consultant

Designed a thin client solution to deliver an Oracle database application to Taiwan and Thailand offices (400 users worldwide) from a Citrix farm of 20 servers in the UK. Final design employed the use of Nfuse, SQL, Windows 2000 and Citrix Metaframe XP to deliver secure, centrally managed and quick delivery of both the bespoke and mainstream (Documentum, Outlook, and IE) applications (with printing) over slow WAN links. Completed design and build documentation in order to handover to BAU team.

Delivered the design and implementation of a retail solution for workstation, till and server scripted builds (including SQL). Delivered a packaging solution for new applications to be distributed to existing clients. Specified and designed a thin client (Windows 2000 Terminal Services) solution to deliver broadband web browsing over 64K lines rolled out to the majority of stores.

1998 - 2000

Leading UK Bank, Multiple Technical Analyst Roles

·          Developed and deployed a secure (Dell) laptop build for Relationship Managers (3000 users). Development of use of ActivCards with Safeboot software to facilitate hard disk encryption on the laptops. The build employed heavy use of thin client technology (Citrix Metaframe) to deliver secure, robust application packages to the laptop. Additionally developed a VB based backup utility designed to run in a Citrix environment in order to provide a robust and efficient backup mechanism for the laptops.

·          Supported the Windows 2000 update project, with the specific task of developing a Tivoli Storage Management (TSM) solution for the project. The aims of the project were not just to migrate to Windows 2000 but also standardise the entire Banking infrastructure to aid support and reduce costs.

·          the form of general Winframe/Farm/Load Balancing Maintenance plus the usual Winframe based application support.

·          Responsible for the design and implementation of a migration plan for 30 NT 3.51 servers to NT 4 server. Support for planning, budget management and recruitment of staff. Defined the upgrade strategy with minimum disruption and maximum contingency.  The project included full documentation of all procedures and technical specifications.

·          Responsible for rollout of the NT4 workstation specification to 1500 users over 23 sites. Duties included recruitment & management of permanent and contract staff, client/site communication and generally being technically responsible for the project. Consulted and worked on several office moves as a technical resource.

·          Produced the design, build and implementation of two new sites in Russia and France including server/workstation (Compaq) builds and WAN considerations. Further work consisted of general support of the users and overall strategy and development of the NT desktop

1990 1997

Involvement in general project work relating to BAU initiatives as well as every facet of PC Support to high volumes of users. Provided maintenance and general troubleshooting support, in addition to installations and upgrades in terms of both hardware and software.
